What are the requirements for daycare/boarding (vaccinations, etc.)? |
Your dog must be current on all required vaccinations. The required vaccinations are Rabies, Distemper/Parvo (DHPP), and Bordetella (kennel cough). Please note that the DHPP vaccination is a series of three for puppies. They are typically given at 8, 12 and 16 weeks of age. They must have completed all three before their evaluation. Dogs over six months of age must be spayed or neutered. Dogs must be flea and tick free, and go through our interviewing process. |

How do I enroll my dog at Playful Pooch? |
The required vaccinations are Rabies, Distemper/Parvo (DHPP), and Bordetella (kennel cough). Please note that the DHPP vaccination is a series of three for puppies. They are typically given at 8, 12 and 16 weeks of age. They must have completed all three before their evaluation. Your dog will then interview with a few other dogs their own size for a short period of time. If this time goes well they will continue the interview in a larger playgroup of dogs, this could take up to two hours. The interview process is to make sure that your dog will enjoy their time at Playful Pooch since daycare and boarding involves a lot of interacting with other dogs. |

What does my dog do all day at Playful Pooch? |
Your dog will play all day in a group of dogs led by one of our trained staff members. Your dog is placed in a playgroup depending on their size and temperament. Each playgroup has a large indoor and outdoor play area with obstacles and toys to keep your dog busy and happy! Mid-day your dog will have a 60-minute naptime in one of our kennels so they can recharge for the afternoon. At naptime we give them a treat or you can leave a lunch with them when you drop them off. |
What kind of collar should my dog wear? |
We recommend that your dog wear a quick release collar with a nametag and phone number on it. |
What is the difference between Playful Pooch and a traditional kennel? |
At Playful Pooch your dog will be interacting and playing with other dogs during the day. A traditional kennel does not offer all day play with other dogs. |
Does my dog play with other dogs during their overnight stay? |
All dogs staying overnight participate in daycare and are only in their kennels at meal times and at night. They have lots of time to play with their friends and will be happy and exhausted when you pick them up! |

Do’s and don’ts for boarding |
- We highly recommend bringing your dog’s own food from home. Please provide enough food for the entire stay along with a little extra just in case! All dry food must be in meal-sized portions in individual ziplock bags with your pooch’s name on each bag OR in a reasonably sized hard-sided closable Tupperware or plastic container, clearly labeled with your pooch’s name. If you do not bring premeasured meals, please specify feeding instructions in measurable cups. If you choose not to bring your own food our house food is available for $2 per day. Any free-fed or picky eaters should bring special enticing food to stimulate eating while staying with us.
- We have Kuranda elevated beds, stuffed crate mats and soft fleeces that we can provide for your pooch. If you would like for them to have something that smells like home, a blanket or fleece is a great addition to put on top of our bedding. If you feel it is necessary, you may bring bedding from home, however all bedding items from home must be able to easily fit in a normal-sized washer and dryer. We do not accept crates, foam, or bulky bedding.
- We will administer medications as provided and directed by you. Please ensure medications are marked with detailed instructions so we can administer them to your dog properly. Prescription medication(s) provided by owners must be in the original container(s) and be clearly labeled with your dog’s name, medication name, strength, dosage, and the name/phone number of the prescribing veterinarian. We do not administer injections.
- Please keep all bowls and measuring cups at home. We have size-appropriate feeding bowls that are washed and disinfected after every use. Please specify under feeding instructions on the Check-In sheet if your dog needs a slow feeder.”
- Please only bring one personal item for each dog. All items left with us should be labeled with you dogs name. Permitted items are: Nylabones, Benebones, Kongs and other durable chews including antlers. We do not accept dental treats, marrow bones, rawhides, bully sticks, balls, fabric toys or any item that may pose a choking or blockage risk.
- If dropping off after 4pm, please have your dog fed beforehand. Please drop off at least one hour before closing time. This way they can be out in playgroup before bedtime. If possible, we suggest dropping off earlier in the day, this helps wear your dog out for bedtime!

Are there any restrictions on what treats I can leave with my dog? |
We ask that you do not provide dental treats, marrow bones, rawhides, bully sticks or any treat that may pose a choking or blockage risk. All soft and crunchy treats are welcome. |
What do you do in case of illness or injury? |
We will try to contact you immediately. If we cannot get a hold of you we will reach out to your emergency contact. If we feel it is necessary your dog will be taken to the veterinarian right away. |
Why is my dog thirsty after daycare? |
Your dog will have water available to them the entire time they stay with us. Our dogs play a lot, which dehydrates them; by the time they get home it’s probably time for them to have another drink. |
Why do my dog’s paws seem to be sensitive after daycare? |
If your dog is very playful their paws might become raw from running around. Although we check their paws it is hard to tell when they are becoming raw until it already happens. If you think your dog’s paws are hurting them they will need to rest to help them heal. |
